The Barrington High School sailing team capped off a remarkable spring season with a seventh-place finish at the 2026 Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) Mallory National Championship, one of the most prestigious events in high school sailing.
Competing against 20 of the nation’s top programs on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, the Eagles represented New England on the national stage and delivered a strong two-day performance to secure a top-10 finish. Barrington finished seventh overall with a combined score of 304 points after 16 races in both the A and B divisions.
The national championship brought together elite teams from across the country that earned their berths through regional qualifying events. Barrington entered the regatta after an outstanding season that included victories at the New England Schools Sailing Association (NESSA) Fleet Racing Championship and the Rhode Island State Championship.

The Eagles demonstrated consistency throughout the championship, highlighted by several top-three finishes in A Division racing. Their performance kept them in contention among the nation’s best programs despite challenging conditions and a highly competitive field.
“This result reflects the dedication and hard work of our sailors all season long,” the team’s head coach Michael Reuter commented. “To finish seventh in the country is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the strength of Barrington sailing.”
The Mallory Trophy serves as the ISSA’s national doublehanded fleet racing championship and is widely regarded as one of the highest levels of competition in high school sailing. The 2026 championship featured teams from across the United States competing in two divisions of racing over the May 30–31 weekend.
Barrington’s seventh-place finish adds another chapter to the program’s growing legacy and reinforces its position among the nation’s premier high school sailing teams. With a young and talented roster, the Eagles will look to build on this success and return to the national stage in future seasons.
The sailors competing in New Orleans included Duffy Macaulay, Benjamin Reuter, Nina Hansen, Kaylee Henchman, Kai Beland, Maddy Kiely and Sophia Lepine. Head coach Michael Reuter and Abigail Tutt is the assistant coach.
