NBYA is finally able to announce that we have planned Season Finale Regatta’s around the bay instead of our originally planned Junior Race Week.
So what happened? We had our plan in place for JRW as a combined classes event at Compass Rose Beach at Quonset Pt, like we have in the past. Everything was set… tent, food, generator, portapotties, RC’s, support, parking, police detail…. etc. Two weeks ago we got notice the Quonset Point Development needed a larger insurance certificate… 10 million. Well, we went to our insurance broker, Gowrie who basically said… impossible, and even if we could find it we could not afford it. NBYA’s President David Schwartz got involved and spent considerable effort, and negotiated it down to 4 million, but we could not get even that coverage in the marketplace at a cost that could be justified. We went to “plan B”, then “plan C”… working to pull off some season event.
Thanks to the generosity of our member clubs (Thank You!) we have 3 scheduled regattas, one for each class.
-Opti Classes, R/W/B and GF, Tuesday August 16th at the Bristol Yacht Club, run by EBSF with help for Bristol and Barrington YC’s.
-Laser, 2-day event, August 16th and 17th at the Sakonnet Yacht Club.
-Club 420, 2-day event, August 15th and 16th at Edgewood YC.
The event site and registration is up on Phlotilla (link attached) and all 2022 NBYA Junior members were emailed with this information this afternoon. Please feel free to share with your program participants. I’m already seeing sailors register, so that’s great!
