NOTICE OF RACE

Rules: The regatta(s) will be governed by The
Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012.
The following additional documents govern the regatta: a
completed Entry Form, and signed Waiver of Liability and Consent for Medical
Treatment Form.
Competitors may not be protested for
breaking class rules requiring membership.
This changes Rule 60.1.
PFDs –U.S. Coast Guard approved life
jackets must be worn properly and secured completely at all times while afloat,
except when actively adding or removing clothing. Whistles permanently attached to the PFD are
recommended. This changes Rule 40.
Protest flags (red flags) code flag ‘B’
are required for all classes. This
changes Rule 61.1(a).
Alcohol and Drugs: No contestant shall use, either on or off the
water, alcoholic beverages or use any controlled substance, the possession of
which is unlawful. This regulation is in
effect during the entire event, from the time of check-in through the
completion of all activities and the departure from the premises.
Advertising:
As per
ISAF Regulation 20.5.6(a), no advertising may be displayed pursuant Regulation
20.3.1.2.
Eligibility:
Girls only. Competitors must be a member of the Narragansett Bay Yachting
Association (NBYA) or one of the other regional sailing associations that are
located in Area A as an individual or family member. For the 420 and Laser Radial classes,
competitors must not reach their 19th birthday in the calendar year
2009. For the Optimist class,
competitors must not reach their 16th birthday in the calendar year
2009.
Classes:
Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Club 420 and Optimist.
There will be a separate race course circle for the Optimist Class.
Entry Fee: $50.00 The fee includes clinic Monday, dinner
Monday evening, racing and an Awards Party on Tuesday. Registrations will be
taken on line at www.nbya.org/shop until
noon on Sunday July 12th.
Registrations will be
accepted during Check In on Monday July 13th from 8:30am-10am and
from 8am- 8:30am Tuesday July 14th at Sail Newport. However, the fee will be increased to
$60.00 and must be paid by cash or check only.
Registration and
housing: The Early Registration deadline is Monday, July 6, 2009. A special regatta t-shirt will be guaranteed for all
registrants whose entry is received at the NBYA office by this date. T-shirts
may not be available for registrations received after this date.
Limited housing may be
available for sailors from out of area.

No race shall be started
after 5:00 pm on Tuesday July 14th.

Sailing Instructions: Sailing
Instructions will be available at Check In.
Venue:
Racing will be in the area West of Goat Island and/or North of the
Coaching: There will be designated clinic coaches for
each class. Any other coaches available
with coach boats are asked to support the guest clinic coaches on the water and
with de-briefs. For race day on Tuesday
July 14th coaches are expected to help all sailors out to the race
course (launch, tow etc.). Only Clinic Coaches
may offer verbal instruction and encouragement to sailors in the back of the
fleet during race day. This changes rule 41
Prizes: For sailors who are members of NBYA, the
For all sailors the Wakeman Trophy
will be awarded to the first place Laser Radial sailor and the Magoon Trophy
will be awarded to the first place club 420 sailor.
The first three (3) finishing
positions in all classes will receive keeper trophies.
Liability: Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of
damage and injury. Competitors in this event are participating entirely at
their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (organizing
authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other
organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or
other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a
result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, and in
accordance with Section 7-6-9 of the General Laws of
All competitors must submit
an ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY and CONSENT FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT (MINOR) signed
by their parent or legal guardian. The
