GMT Boat of the Year - Bunched at the Top!

With the MOHOSA results posted the standings for the NBYA Boat of the year have been turned upside down.  Mark Rotsky in his J/30 NEMISIS won for the third time in four qualifying events.  He moves in front of Chip Hawkins in CANEEL who has two first and two seconds in GMT events.

David Schwartz in MISCHIEF slipped to a close third.  All three yachts have plenty of time to get in six races and thus earn a throw-out. Meanwhile Steve Thurston in MIGHTY PUFFIN has a perfect record of two wins still has plenty of time to qualify.  He needs just two more races.

GMT Boat of the Year - a tight race!

The standings for the GMT Composites Boat of the Year are posted after the Twenty Hundred Race to Cuttyhunk – the fourth qualifying event.  The first three places are held by Mischief (David Schwartz),  Caneel (Chip Hawkins), and Nemesis (Mark Rotsky).   This is only a preliminary indicator since there are 5 events needed to qualify and a comparison of boats completing from 1 to 3 races is shown.  Stay tuned for updates as the race season progresses.

NBYA has a new website look

NBYA has upgraded its website over the past 12 months.  The first upgrade was in December 2008 with the introduction of the NBYA Forum followed with the integrated Calendar add-on in January 2009.  The calendar includes easy to find information for all the NBYA events – Regattas, Meetings, Social Events and Training.

In February 2009 we installed software to enable online transactions for payment of NBYA and US Sailing dues, regatta registration and purchasing tickets for NBYA social events.   The online system allows payment by credit card, or for those who prefer a check can still be mailed to NBYA.  This NBYA Online Shop proved to be a great success for Junior Race Week.  Advanced registrations went from 30% the previous year to 80% in 2009.  This significantly reduced the burden for our volunteers at the registration table.

Finally, in November 2009 we completely reorganized the NBYA website and incorporated new technology that enables news feeds from both ISAF and US Sailing.  There is now search capability on the NBYA site to help you find things.  We anticipate as the 2010 regatta schedule is firmed up, information will be posted with links for registration, sailing documents and regatta results, building on what we started in 2009.

Please feel free to provide your comments and suggestions as we work to improve our service to the sailing community!
