NOTICE OF RACE

1. Eligibility:
1.1 Each member Yacht Club or Sailing Association of NBYA may enter one team consisting of three yachts.
1.2 Skippers must be members of the Yacht Club or Sailing Association represented. A non-member crew may not be helmsman while racing. The following crew requirements govern:
All yachts MUST have a crew of 50% members of the Yacht Club or Sailing Association that they represented.
2. Entry:
The entry form must be completed and signed by a flag officer of the Club or
Association represented and be received by NBYA,
3. RULES: - The following shall govern the Team Race.
3.1 The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 as altered by Appendix D-Team Racing Rules will apply.
3.2 Any amendments will be posted on the official notice board at the Barrington Yacht Club.
3.3 Scoring penalty Rule 44.3 shall apply Boats must provide there own penalty flag

4. RATING RULE:
Yachts will be handicapped under PHRF by PHRF of Narragansett using Time-on-Distance scoring.
5. TEAMS:
5.1 Each team shall consist of three yachts. The cumulative PHRF ratings shall be equal to or greater than 305.
5.2 Each team may use up to two (2) boats per manufacturer, but not the same length. For example, your team could include a J/24 & a J/30, but not two J/24s.
5.3 All yachts will start together in one class.
5.4 This regatta will be sailed with spinnakers.
5.5 Team flags or yacht club burgees shall be flown from the backstay of each boat.
6. GENERAL INFORMATION:
6.1 Sailing Instructions and scratch sheets will be sent to each team via the Team Captain prior to the race.
6.2 The warning signal for the first race will be made at 1200 hours.
7. SCORING:
7.1 Low point scoring will be used based on corrected time finishes. Appendix D3 of the Racing Rules will apply except that each yacht’s total score will be the sum of her scores for all races. No throw out races will be allowed.
7.2 If a team enters less than three yachts the non-starters will be scored DNS. The lowest point total earned by a team will determine the winning team.
8. PROTESTS:
8.1 Protesting yachts must comply with Rules 60 and 61. Appendix D2 does not apply, this changes Appendix D
8.2 Written protests must be delivered to the HOST YACHT CLUB no later than 2000 hours on Monday following the race. The protest hearing will be held at the Host Yacht Club at 2330 hours on the Wednesday following the race.
9. PRIZES:
Prizes will be awarded at the NBYA Awards Banquet November 7th at Barrington Yacht Club.
10. RACE COMMITTEES:
The Race Committee for this event will be provided by the Barrington Yacht Club.

The Bay Cup Challenge will be held in conjunction with the Swanson Team Race on September 20, 2009. Yacht Clubs which have already entered a team for the Swanson Cup are invited to enter a separate team for the Bay Cup Challenge. All NBYA Yacht Clubs and Racing Associations are eligible to participate in the event. A perpetual trophy has been donated anonymously by members of the East Greenwich Yacht Club.
SIMPLE RULES:
I. Skippers must be members of the represented club or organization. This is a good race to include active non-member racers at your club!
II. Three (3) boats per team.
III. Up to two (2) boats per manufacturer, but not the same length. For example, your team could include a J/24 & a J/30, but not two J/24s.
IV. Team flags or yacht club burgees shall be flown from the backstay of each competing yacht.
